My Final Declaration of Freedom: Why I Deleted My Social Media

For as long as I can remember, social media has felt like a shadow following me, lingering just close enough to remind me of its presence, but never close enough to feel useful or meaningful. It’s strange, really—to carry something that doesn’t feel like it belongs to you. For years, I kept my Facebook and X (formerly Twitter) accounts open, even though I never really used them. They just sat there, collecting digital dust like forgotten relics in an attic. They weren’t a reflection of who I am or what I stand for—they were just… there.

And that bothered me.

I’ve always been someone who values intention and authenticity. My life, my work, my story—they’re out there for the world to see. I’ve written my truth across the pages of my books, poured my soul into my music, and bared my heart in my blog and podcast. So why was I holding onto platforms that felt hollow? Why was I keeping these virtual ties to a part of the world I didn’t connect with?

The answer was simple: I didn’t need to. I never did.

Today, I’m thrilled to share that I’ve finally cut those ties for good. My official Facebook and X accounts are gone, deleted, erased from existence. And let me tell you, it feels incredible—like shedding a layer of weight I didn’t realize I was carrying. This isn’t just a small step; it’s a final declaration of freedom.

Social media always felt performative to me—a stage where people present curated, filtered versions of their lives in exchange for validation. That’s not me. That’s never been me. I’m not here to impress anyone or to post for the sake of engagement. My life isn’t something to be packaged into a timeline of neatly captioned updates. It’s messy, raw, and real, and I refuse to reduce it to bite-sized content just to keep up with the digital noise.

The truth is, I never posted on those platforms anyway. They were nothing more than lingering shadows—reminders of expectations I didn’t care to meet. And now, thankfully, they’re gone. I no longer have to feel tied to accounts that served no purpose in my life. I no longer have to feel like I’m “supposed” to be doing something with them.

This doesn’t mean I’m stepping away from sharing my story. Quite the opposite, actually. I’m just choosing to do it on my terms, in my own space, free from the constraints of algorithms and the endless scroll. If you want to keep up with me, my life, and whatever I decide to create or share in the future, this is the place to do it—right here on my blog and podcast.

But let me be clear: this space isn’t going to be like social media. You won’t find scheduled posts or predictable updates here. There’s no pattern, no timeline, no pressure. I’ll post when I feel like I have something worth sharing—whether that’s later today, tomorrow, next week, or a year from now. The beauty of this freedom is that you’ll never know when I’ll have something new to say, and neither will I.

If you want to stay in the loop, I invite you to subscribe to my blog. It’s the only way to get notified instantly when I do post because this website is now the only place where I’ll share updates, reflections, or anything else I feel is worth putting out into the world.

I’ve kept one exception—a private Facebook account to stay connected with my husband. That’s it. Beyond that, my life is social media-free, and I couldn’t be happier about it.

This decision isn’t just about deleting accounts; it’s about reclaiming my time, my energy, and my life. It’s about walking away from the noise and choosing simplicity, authenticity, and peace. My books, my music, and my story are already out there for anyone who wants to dive in. They exist as unfiltered, lasting records of who I am and what I stand for. I don’t need the distractions or the fleeting validation of social media anymore.

For those of you who’ve followed me on those platforms over the years, thank you for being part of my journey. I hope you’ll continue to walk with me here, in this space where the noise fades and only the truth remains.

This is my final declaration of freedom. I’m untethered, unfiltered, and finally free to live and share on my terms.

Take care for now,

Derrick Solano
